Down River Cruise 2011
The following report has been derived from a Newsletter with minor additions as picked up from the participants. “Mustard”, “Nipper”, Weather or Knot”, “Wisecrack”, “Kafena” and “Nkwazi” took part in the full 3 week cruise, with “China Rose” accompanying them on the first stage only to Limehouse. Second stop for the Weybridge 6 was Queenborough, thereafter visiting Brightlingsea, (River Colne), Heybridge Basin (River Blackwater), Burnham Yacht Harbour (River Crouch), Tichmarsh Marina, Walton Backwater (Twizzle Creek) and Ipswich Haven Marina (River Orwell). Due to high winds it was not possible for them to go to Woodbridge as they had hoped but some of our Mariners went by bus. They stopped usually an average of 2 days at each location and the weather was generally pretty good, at least while they were cruising although they did have some sea fog which luckily cleared reasonably quickly. The story told was that whilst in the fog with everyone being concerned about dangers of not being able to see anything coming, David aboard Nkwazi just got his rods out and settled down for a bit of fishing. Thereafter to Woolverston Marina, then Rochester and finally home Saturday 16th July. A fantastic holiday, good food and drink and (of course) good company. All the cruise members gave their thanks to Charles for all the organisation and for getting them all there and back safely!
