On the 23rd July 2005 prompted by Danny Rogers and some of the
senior members it was decided that to lift the spirits of our President after
his recent ill health, we would arrange a sail past at his house on Thames
Ditton Island. Well, a few phone calls and discussions what do you know, we have
got a group of WMC members ready willing and able to perform the deed. Some
members could not come by boat so they arrived at the house. Len's family were
in on the scheme and therefore daughter, granddaughters and great granddaughter,
rallied round and the club burgee was erected. Len's cap was found to protect
him from the sun whilst he entertained his WMC visitors. The Sail Past was due
for 11.00 o'clock and shortly after the flotilla arrived. All of the boats had
additional members and dressed in their best bibs and tuckers gave the salute.
Len was surprised, delighted and overwhelmed at the sight of the boats sailing
past his house. Most of the crews popped in for refreshment and a chat
after the event. I know that all members would thank Danny for arranging this
for our president and are looking forward to seeing him back at the club for the
official sail past.
